Description

Information management have a wide range of means because it has developed independently in three different sectors of the information processing community: database management, records management and data processing management (King & Kraemer, 1988). Generally, information management refers to the process of collection of information from one or more sources and distributing it to the audience.

There are certain principles when undertaking information management. 1.Information assets belong to the corporate. Information is valuable resources to a corporate and it is the foundation of decision-making. 2. Information should be available and shared because it helps to explore corporate knowledge. 3. Information should be keep secure. Through relevant regulation and legislation, information sharing and release should be balanced with restricting the availability if confidential and sensitive information.


Agile values

Focus (Scrum Value) – It’s vital to focus on the important information that has been gathered from the customer. If the requirements are not clearly harvested then there might be a misperception among the development team.

Communication (XP Value) Without communication, managing information is next to impossible. By having face-to-face communication, it clearly helps the development team identify the specifications from the customer.

Openness (Scrum Value) - The organisations must be open to adapting to new technology like enterprise 2.0 for managing the information.it has been proven that if they adapt to new technology, collecting and managing information will become much more easier.

Agile principles

The most efficient and effective method of 
conveying information to and within a development 
team is face-to-face conversation (Agile Manifesto)
This principle can be strongly related to information management because managing information is vey essential in an organization. For an information to be effectively communicated, it would be have to be face-to-face rather than by a document. By doing face-to-face conversation a customer can clearly tell the development team what the requirements are.

Business people and developers must work 
together daily throughout the project (Agile Manifesto). This principle can be related to information management because; managing information is very vital for a project to be successful. If the correct information hasn’t been transferred to the development team from the client, then there will be a misunderstanding of what the original requirement that was given by the customer.by having the client and the development team working daily, then the project will be executed very effectively.

Welcome changing requirements, even late in 
development. Agile processes harness change for 
the customer's competitive advantage (Agile Manifesto). If the customer wants any change to the original requirement, and then the information must be communicated effectively to avoid any misunderstanding between the development team and the client.

Agile practices

User stories (XP) – this can be strongly related to information management because user stories is where the information of the requirements that the client wants. If this is not managed very effectively then there might be confusion in the development team to what to produce.

Active stakeholders (XP) – If the stakeholders are actively participate with the development team, then the information can be simple and effective meaning the client can communicate directly to the development team to built the product

On-Site Customer (XP) – if the customer is on-site with the development team, they can directly communicate with the development team to ask for any changes in the original requirements instead of communicating through documents, which may confuse the development team.


Discussion

In agile approach it’s very important for the organisations to use the information that has been gathered from the customer to respond to the change quickly and very effectively.There are five different strategies that are associated with the technology to support in managing information in an agile way (zinck, 2010).
They are:
Enterprise content management, case management, business process management, enterprise 2.0 and social customer relationship management.

In contrast, the traditional method of information management is to have clear and defined strategies that will be required by the organisations to keep the information. It usually involves having some kind of documentation that has to be kept for official records and communication. It also has to be evaluated and prioritised in according to how importance the information is to the organisations (Rao, 1999).

Change management is another Knowledge area that relates to the information management. For a change to be managed successfully, it requires for the information to be communicated throughout the entire stakeholder in the organisations.
